About our mixed billing family practice

South Coast Medical’s vision is ‘Excellence in Care and Service’. As an independent family practice, we’ve been fulfilling this vision for almost 40 years. Our private or mixed billing system supports our team to provide you with optimal health services in four comprehensively equipped practices in Rosebud, Rye, Dromana and Blairgowrie.

What is private or mixed billing?

Private billing is also known as mixed billing. As a private billing practice, we charge you a gap fee between the cost of your consultation and the Medicare rebate.

You will need to pay the full fee at the time of your consultation then claim the rebate.

Our practices use Medicare online and Hicaps. As long as you are registered with Medicare to receive electronic payments your rebate can be directly refunded to your bank account.

What is bulk billing?

Bulk billing practices bill Medicare directly for a medical or allied health service that you receive. The doctor accepts the Medicare benefit as full payment for their services. You do not pay a gap fee at a bulk billing practice.

Which services do we bulk bill?

We bulk bill all children under 16 and all of the following services:

  • Chronic condition consultations to establish and monitor care plans
  • Government funded health assessments such as the 4 year old ‘healthy kids’ check and the 45 – 49 year old assessment
  • All childhood vaccinations
  • Seasonal flu vaccinations (for over 65 years and eligible patients)

We also reduce our gap fees for pension and health care cardholders.

3 reasons why we’re a mixed billing practice

We’re committed to

  • providing integrated, team-based healthcare. Our GPs, nurses and allied health professionals work closely together to help you get and stay well.

  • offering identical levels of excellent contemporary healthcare at all 4 of our fully equipped practices. We understand that easy access to your preferred local doctors makes a world of difference to your wellbeing.

  • giving you the time you need with the doctor of your choice. While it’s not always possible, we aim to cap our standard GP’s consultations at 4 per hour. This means your preferred doctor is available to see you for the time it takes to discuss your needs and treatment options.

Mixed billing helps us sustain these long-standing commitments to you and your loved ones.
